Manna Dey
Prabodh Chandra Dey (born 1 May 1919), better known by his nickname Manna Dey, is a playback singer in Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Assamese films.
He has also sung songs in the Indian languages of Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Magahdh, Punjabi, Maithilee, Konkani, Sindhri and Chattisgarghi. He made his debut as a playback singer in the film Tamanna in 1942. He has recorded more than 4000 songs from 1942-2013. His peak period, in Hindi playback singing, is considered to be from 1953-1976. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007.
